Project Description

The NeLRaLEC project has been funded by Asia IT & C Programme of the European Commission. Led by the Open University, UK, the other project partners are Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya and the Central Department of Linguistics at Tribhuvan University from Nepal, and Lancaster University, UK, Göteberg University, Sweden and the European Language Resource Association (ELRA), France, from Europe.The project office is located at Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya, Nepal, which also looks after its management and day to day operations.

The main objective of this project is to further integrate Nepal and neighbouring regions in the Information Society so that they can exploit Information and Communication Technologies through the medium of Nepali, ensuring that this is sustainable. To achieve this goal, the project's main activities are:

The target groups for this project include schools and universities and associated organisations and communities in Nepal, public administration bodies including national and local government, cultural organisations devoted to Nepali, software and media industries in Nepal and universities teaching and researching into the Nepali language.
