Children's and young people's digital literacies in virtual online spaces

«Back

Summary: This ESRC funded seminar series (RES-451-26-0731)which ran from 2009-10 considered the digital literacy practices taking place in virtual online spaces and explored potentialities for literacy educators. Although the funded period is now over, the team is continuing to work on research, publications and other related activities. We focus on contemporary innovative use of online virtual spaces. The virtual spaces considered include virtual worlds (VWs), online massive multiplayer online games (MMOG), and alternate or mixed-reality learning environments. We see these as intersecting with the related term Web 2.0. The organisers of the seminar series were Dr Julia Gillen, Lancaster University, Professor Guy Merchant, Sheffield Hallam University and Dr Julia Davies and Professor Jackie Marsh of Sheffield University.
