Can you see pain? Visual art as an intervention in medical communication, lecture by Deborah Padfield

Date: Time: 01.00 pm

Venue: Bowland North, Seminar Room 2

Chronic pain is invisible, complex and notoriously difficult to communicate via language. It is equally difficult to constrict into the numerical measures commonly used such as, 'rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10'.

Artist Deborah Padfield will present the results of two collaborative projects with NHS Pain Specialists, discussing the process of co-creating images with pain patients and the rewards and challenges of collaborating with other disciplines. Deborah will discuss images from both of these award winning collaborations: Perceptions of Pain (2001 - 2006) with Dr Charles Pither and patients from INPUT pain unit, St Thomas' Hospital, London and the current; and face2face project
