This study is documenting the linguistic markers of the different levels of foreign language proficiency defined by IELTS band levels. It is doing so through a detailed analysis of four features of writing performance:
- cohesive devices
- vocabulary richness
- syntactic complexity
- grammatical accuracy
We are analysing performances on the IELTS academic writing module by Chinese and Spanish L1 speakers at IELTS band levels 3 - 8.
