The Trinity College London Calibration Project: Relating the Graded examinations in spoken English (GESE) and the Integrated Skills in English examinations (ISE) to the Common European Framework of ReferenceThis project was funded by Trinity College London, constructors of the Graded examinations in spoken English (GESE) and the Integrated Skills in English examinations (ISE), two suites which test English for speakers of other languages. The project aimed at relating GESE and ISE to the “Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching and Assessment” (CEFR) published by the Council of Europe in 2001. An additional aim was to secure the validity and reliability of the exams, which is an important prerequisite for any linking project, and also part of the Empirical Validation stage of the Manual. All phases of the project have now been completed. It is expected that the Trinity Calibration project will offer interested parties such as the CoE and other exam boards a useful insight into the linking process of the Manual and will contribute to the transparency and comparability aim of the Language Policy Division of the Council of Europe. At the same time, scores obtained by Trinity candidates will be more transparent and meaningful for test users. For further information please contact Spiros Papageorgiou.
