Research Interests

Richard Xiao is a Research Associate in the department of Linguistics and English Language. His research interests include corpus-based language studies, tense and aspect theory, contrastive and translation studies, and Chinese linguistics. Having completed the ESRC-funded research project Contrasting Tense and Aspect in English and Chinese (RES-000-220135), he is currently working on the project Contrasting English and Chinese , which is also supported by the ESRC (RES-000-23-0553).

Richard is on the Editorial Board of the international journal Glossa. Heis a reviewer for Applied Linguistics (OUP), Literary and Linguistic Computing (OUP), Languages in Contrast (Benjamins),Corpora (EUP), Linguistics (de Gruyter), and Corpus Linguistics and Linguistic Theory (de Gruyter). He has also regularly assessed research proposals for the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Richard is a member of the European Association of Chinese Linguistics.
