In my reserach I focus on second language acquisition. I am particularly interested in cognitive processes of memory and attention underlying language learning. I wrote my thesis on task complexity and interaction during task-based L2 performance at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands). As a post-doctoral researcher at Mannheim University (Germany) I focused on preschool teachers' language training competences. Currently, I work on projects about the external validation of task complexity and on priming during task-based computer mediated communication.

PhD Supervision Interests

I am interested in supervising PhD theses in the area of second language acquisition. In particular, I would be interested in (psycholinguistic) projects about tasks, priming, learner-learner interaction, and computer mediated communication (CMC) that make use of our lab (eye tracking, E-Prime a.s.o.). I may work on the source/target languages German, Dutch, French, Italian.

Research Interests

  • Second language acquisition (SLA)
  • Task-based language teaching (TBLT)
  • Language pedagogy
  • Psycholinguistics

I am the organisor of the Second Language Learning and Teaching research group (SLLAT). We meet several times a term for invited talks and discussions of current topics in SLA and L2 pedagogy.

Current Teaching

In autum 2013 I will teach LING411: Second Language Acquisition.

In June 2013 I will visit Hong Kong to teach 'Task-based language teaching' (LING407d).

During the spring term 2013 I will teach the class 'Task-based language teaching' (LING 407) and the six-week module 'Instructed Second Language Acquisition' (LING 408).

In autum 2012 I assist Diane Potts in the class 'Introduction to Language Teaching' (LING 415) and Andrea Revesz in the class 'Second Language Acquisition' (LING 411).
