Research Centres and Groups
Research Centres
The department has two research centres, each of which involves permanent teaching and research staff, research associates, research students and visiting research fellows. The department provides research funding to research centres to invite speakers, to initiate pilot research projects and to organise events. Our research centres are:
University Centre for Computer Corpus Research on Language (UCREL)
Literacy Research Centre (LRC)
Research Groups
Within and between these centres are smaller research groups, which offer, amongst other things, regular informal opportunities for discussion of work in progress, and have presentations from research projects and research students in the department and invited visitors from other departments and institutions. Our research groups are:
Gender and Language Research Group (GAL)
Language Testing Research Group (LTRG)
Language, Ideology & Power Research Group (LIP)
Language Variation and Linguistic Theory (LVLT)
Pragmatics and Stylistics Research Group (PaSTY)
Second Language Learning and Teaching Research Group (SLLAT)
Speech Research Group (SRG)
Translating and Interpreting Research Group (TAIRG)
