This conference aims to bring together researchers working in different contexts with bilingual spoken data (code-switching and other forms of language contact) in any languages. The focus will be on issues of transciption, encoding, analysis (especially automated analysis), and exchange of data among researchers. The conference coincides with the publication (in June 2000) of the LIDES Coding Manual: A Document for Preparing and Analysing Language Interaction Data by the the LIPPS Group (Language Interaction in Plurilingual and Plurilectal Speakers).

There will be a conference fee of £20 which will include lunch. Limited on-campus accommodation is available for overnight stays.

The conference will be held in the Department of Linguistics and Modern English Language, Lancaster University, and is organised by the Steering Committee of the LIPPS Group :

Registering for the conference 

If possible, please register on-line by using our on-line registration form to book for the conference and accommodation if required.
If necessary, register by post using the address of the Local Organiser given in the section below.
The conference fee of £20 (British Sterling) must be sent by post within 30 days of the registration. Sorry, no credit or debit cards.

Under a special arrangement with Kingston Press, Publishers of the 'International Journal of Bilingualism', we are able to offer the special issue entitled "The LIDES Coding Manual" at a reduced price of 13.50 to Conference participants. (The normal price will be approximately 21 or US$34.)

Submission of Abstracts

We invite papers or posters on any subject relevant to the Conference themes outlined above. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 31st May, 2000. We will aim to notify participants about the acceptance of abstracts by 30th June, 2000.

Format of abstracts:
1. At the top of the page put author's name(s), mailing address, e-mail address, fax and telephone number.
2. Immediately below put the title of the paper, followed by the text of the abstract.
3. Abstracts should be at most 300 words.
4. Abstracts may be e-mailed to M.Sebba@lancaster.ac.uk . Please use plain text, RTF or Word 7.0 or below. If not using e-mail, please send 2 copies by post to:
