  1. Am I eligible for a place on the EAP Course? If you have applied and been made an offer for study at either Undergraduate or Postgraduate level at Lancaster University, and have either met your English Language condition or been asked to take the EAP Course as part of your offer to study here, we will consider you for the EAP Course.

  2. If I have not met the language requirement to study at Lancaster, can I take the EAP Course as an alternative? Many Departments are happy to amend a conditional offer to include the satisfactory completion of the EAP Course as an alternative to gaining the required IELTS/TOEFL entry requirement, however, the admitting Department and UG/PG Admissions will need to see a copy of your most recent English Language result before a decision can be made. If you are not sure who to contact within the Department about this, please contact the Study Skills Secretary by e-mail on studyskills@lancaster.ac.uk attaching a copy of your most recent language result. She will then liaise with the necessary Department and Admissions Office on your behalf.

  3. If I am an unconditional offer student, can I still apply for a place on the EAP Course? Yes but places are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  4. When is the deadline to return my completed EAP Application Form? The deadline for applicants to submit an application is Friday 3rd August at 5.00pm (UK time).  This will allow sufficient time for applications to be processed and for the University to issue the necessary information in order for applicants to apply for a visa (overseas students only) and to make travel arrangements.

  5. Am I required to pay a deposit for the EAP Course and is it refundable? Yes, all students are required to pay 150.00 GBP in order to secure their place on the EAP Course. Your deposit should be paid on-line via the EAP website. There are other payment methods available, however, this is the simplest and we would prefer you use the secure online payment system which can be found by clicking on the 'Payment of Course Fees' link from the main EAP webpage. This deposit is non-refundable.

  6. How much are the tuition fees for the EAP Course? The tuition fees for 2012 are yet to be confirmed. If a sponsor has agreed to cover your fees, please provide full contact details of your sponsor including name, address and e-mail address and we will arrange for an invoice to be sent once you have arrived in Lancaster. If you are a link student via the International Office or the Management School, please tick the necessary box on your application form and we will take care of the rest.

  7. How can I apply for accommodation for the EAP Programme? Can I live on campus?  When will I move to my permanent room? Once you have been accepted for a place on the EAP Programme, you will be e-mailed an Accommodation Booking Form.  You will live in on-campus accommodation in one of the 8 Undergraduate colleges which has been allocated for EAP until Wednesday 26th September, at which time you will then be asked to move to your permanent room.  We will incorporate this move into your timetable and will be provided with further information, once you have arrived in Lancaster.

  8. What kind of rooms are available for EAP students on campus? Students will be offered an en-suite study-bedroom i.e. with your own personal bathroom, whilst you are staying in EAP accommodation.

  9. When should I arrive for the EAP Course? Students should arrive on either Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd September, ready to begin the programme on Monday 3rd September.

  10. Can you provide a pick-up service from the airport? No. Due to the large number of students expected for EAP, it is not possible for us to arrange a pick-up service. Students are asked to make their own travel arrangements.

  11. Will you provide travel information? Yes. The Study Skills Secretary will e-mail you with a document containing Pre-arrival/Travel Information to help you plan your journey to Lancaster. This will be e-mailed to you once you have been accepted for EAP.

  12. Will there be internet connection in my room and is there a charge for this service? Yes. We will arrange for you to have internet connection in your room automatically from the day you arrive, unless you have notified us that you do not want this service. The cost for internet will be included in your accommodation fee.

  13. Where do I go when I arrive at Lancaster University? Will there be somebody to show me to my room? On your arrival, please go to the Porters Office for the College you are staying in. The Porter will issue you with a key and show you to your room. There is Porter cover 24-hours so there will always be somebody available, should you arrive during the day or night.

  14. Should I bring my own bedding or will this be provided? We can provide students with a bedding pack which contains; a sheet, duvet and duvet cover, pillow and pillowcase. If you indicate on your Accommodation Booking Form that you would like to buy a bedding pack, this will be placed in your room before your arrival. A bedding pack will cost 35.00 GBP and you will be invoiced for this amount once you have arrived in Lancaster. You may then keep your bedding for the duration of your time in Lancaster.  There is no need for you to purchase a separate bedding pack for your permanent accommodation.

  15. Where do I go on Day 1 of the EAP Course? When you arrive in Lancaster, the Porter will hand you a Welcome Pack with your key (if he/she doesn't, please ask for this). Please read the information very carefully in this pack as it will contain your Course Handbook and will give you the exact details of where to go on Day 1. If you plan to live off-campus, please collect your Welcome Pack from the Course Office, Bowland North Seminar Room 1. The Study Skills Secretary will also e-mail all EAP students, details of Day 1 in advance of your arrival to Lancaster.

  16. How do I pay my remaining fees? Once you have arrived in Lancaster and began your course, you will be asked to pay your remaining fees online via the EAP website. Further information on this will be provided in your Course Handbook. If you would like to organise a draft from your home Country in order to pay your remaining fees, please remember to deduct the deposit you have already paid and only include the exact fees for the EAP Course . All drafts should be made payable to Lancaster University.

  17. What does a typical week involve on the EAP Course? Students will receive a minimum of 4 classroom-based teaching hours per day; one-on-one tutorials on a weekly basis with their own personal Tutor and scheduled time for self-study. Students must be able to manage their own time efficiently and productively, this is why we have built periods of private self-study into this course so that students have the opportunity to develop good time-management skills. Students will need to do a substantial amount of reading as well as writing and redrafting of assignments during these periods and in the evenings in order to meet the deadlines set by their Tutors.

  18. I have only been granted a short-term Visa, I am very worried, can I extend my Visa when I arrive in Lancaster? First of all, please do not worry! It is very common for students, particularly those with a conditional offer, to only be granted a short-term Visa. We will arrange for a member of Student Services to come and talk to you about the process of extending your Visa and we will provide you with a Visa extension form and all the necessary information you will need.

  19. My conditional offer asks that I successfully complete the EAP Course, what does this mean?Successful completion of the EAP Course means that you have attended all classes, contributed in class, submitted all pieces of work and your level of English has made sufficient improvement that we think you are ready for academic study at Lancaster.

  20. Do I need to re-take an English test or an exam following completion of the course? No. You will not be asked to take any kind of test or exam. The way the course is designed ensures that students are continually assessed on an on-going basis throughout.

  21. How do I apply for accommodation for my degree programme? The College and Residence Office are responsible for the arrangements of your accommodation from October onwards. You will receive an e-mail in due course asking you to apply on-line, you will then receive notification of the room you have been allocated around mid-September and you will be asked to pay a deposit of 190.00 GBP on-line, in order to secure your room.

  22. Can I open a bank account when I arrive in Lancaster? Yes. Once you have arrived and registered on the EAP Course and have officially registered with the University, you may then request a bank letter from the Student Registry in order to open a UK bank account. There are two banks on campus for students to choose from; Natwest and Barclays.
